A writer, a world traveler. Her story is one of passion and love which Sandi captures in her writings. When she writes a higher power takes over. Sandi has shared with us a very interesting read titled, "Popcorn Moment" along with more of her writings; including and this is a quote "My favorite writing to date"!
Recently I was reminded, twice, of a mindset I would choose to adopt in intense situations - the ‘popcorn’ moment. A popcorn moment is when all human effort has been exhausted and so you just sit back, grab the popcorn and see how this movie plays out. Now the question is, are we there?
Amid a world pandemic, we huddled cautiously and admittedly fearful of a ‘silent, ominous’ enemy who slithered in and caught many of us unaware. We sat helplessly at a ping pong game between the so-called health experts and scientists who constantly spewed out contradictory updates to the pandemic that held us hostage.
So as we learned to maneuver through the pandemic ‘mine field’, another player made a strategic move on the chessboard - social unrest, but not just civil social unrest, an explosion of the ‘600-pound, long overdue elephant in the room’. For far too long this country has avoided a conversation needed to address the resolution or remedy of the systemic ‘segregated’ system we live in. I hear the gasps of many who would argue that in 2020, segregation no longer exists, but if you are jogging in a neighborhood and targeted as ‘suspicious’ then it’s safe to say, still segregated.
What makes this ‘popcorn’ moment different is the explosion of global response to the latest unjust act and wanton abuse of power.
I’ve been on this planet for 65 years and to be quite honest, I never had any expectation of seeing any real change, let alone real conversation. I recently read the response online from the wife of a professional athlete say “I get it” after experiencing the horrific hate, which unfortunately, too many experience daily for no other reason than something that can’t be changed - the color of their skin. To see major corporation after corporation step up in empathy is promising.
I was alive for the civil rights protests from back in the day and saw the outcome of ‘affirmative action’ which didn’t address the issue at heart. We never dismantled the systemic conditioning required to convince one people of their superiority while convincing another of their inferiority. This all in the face of we are ALL created by one God, and in Him “there’s no Greek or Jew, nor male or female”, meaning it’s a ‘spirit’ thing. That one thing existing in us all that connects us to the Divine.
So how does this ‘popcorn’ moment play out, no idea, but this I do know, ‘a change is gonna come’.
At this juncture, I am overwhelmed by the solidarity of many who don’t look like me but who protest for a better world for their children, and I feel encouraged. Will I be alive to see the end of this movie’, not sure, to see at least the conversations beginning to take place is phenomenal.
What I would encourage America in this extraordinary, chaotic, and historic moment in time to do - lean into it. We determine the end of this movie or ‘popcorn’ moment.

History about the true Americans has been manipulated for hundreds of years. Today, these lies in classrooms and books continue to be told across the country. The narrative that was told about "discovering America" is to masked the facts of where they came from. They were not an advanced country; the people were still living years behind other countries.
